I’m Afraid of Americans is from Bowie’s 1997 album ‘Earthling’. The single version that became most popular was a remix collaboration with the band Propellerheads, which overlaid drum ‘n’ bass grooves with heavy rock. The song is about the fear of an vulnerable outsider running from power, and features an unstoppable insistent groove.

This TTBB version by Steve Milloy captures its dark intensity and sinister aggression. It was originally commissioned by the New York City Gay Men’s Chorus under the artistic direction of Charlie Beale, and featured a pas de deux and some movement in the singers. It features a big variety of choral textures, glissandos, and some fun vocal moments of rock ‘roaring’. and voices imitating synthesizers.
