Vocal music director and arranger for 'Brand New Day'
It’s not every day that a major new 2000 seater concert hall opens in a world city.
So I could not be more delighted to be part of this epic production over 3 nights at the brand new Jeffrey Chea Center for the Performing Arts (JCPAC) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
I’m lucky enough to be leading with my own chorus of 12, plus 10 main principals, arranging the songs and then rehearsing and coaching the singers individually and as an ensemble. Chorus, principals and I have been working intensively for the last week, and it has been a complete joy!
The cast are all top professional singers, supported by some from overseas, accompanied by a full orchestra, conducted by the inestimable Kevin Field. The Sitzprobe was last night, and his band proved they can surpass many UK and US pops orchestras, in their efficiency, musicality and good humor. There is so much talent and passion for music-making here.
In an era where we are told the arts are under threat, it is great to be reminded of what is possible. For KL musicians and performers, it really is a ‘Brand New Day’.
