Charlie is an award-winning composer and arranger, specializing in contemporary, accessible and anthemic choral music that makes connections, builds relationships and creates change in communities.
Often in musical theater, jazz and other groove-based pop styles, his writing is stylistically broad, and can be adapted to suit singers and audiences. If you would like to commission a piece for your group, contact Charlie.
As an educator, Charlie has helped children and adults of all ages to find their voices in the US, the UK and around the world. He has led spectacular events in the West End and Carnegie Hall, workshops in San Diego and New York middle and high schools, weekend singing retreats in Australia, and more intimate workshops in Church Avenue, Brooklyn, for those living with HIV. His specialism in LGBTQ+ choruses has given him special skills to help everyone be their best selves through singing.
Charlie is also co-author, with Steve Milloy of OUP’s award-winning Popular Voiceworks series (1, 2 and ‘at Christmas’). This series provides mainstream educators with inclusive arrangements, lesson plans and specialist advice for singing safely in popular styles with confidence, authenticity and joy. He also has pieces, choral arrangements and octavos published by Faber and ABRSM Publishing.
