Documenting Bowie’s American experience, the song is simultaneously a celebration of fame, and also a cutting and cynical tear-down of it. Lyrics reference how fame ‘drives you insane’ and ‘makes you hollow’, ‘too cool to fool’.

This energized and compelling TTBB arrangement has elements of a cappella, with 4-part vocal recreation of upbeat 1970s funk grooves. Intermediate level with a couple of more challenging melodic moments in individual parts, it would suit a chorus comfortable with making a pop sound.
