‘The Holly and The Ivy’ is a well known folk carol, originally from the British isles, and has been traced back by historians to the early 1800s. Here it is given the Thad Jones jazz waltz treatment, to give it new swagger and take the joy of this standard to a new and altogether groovier place. Check out both Youtube videos below.

The song has many short verses, and the texture, key and musical character varies from verse to verse, The arrangement is intermediate but with more demanding moments, and finishes upbeat and celebratory.
